Good Friday Taizé Service

Join us tomorrow evening at 7pm our Good Friday Service of scripture, shadow, and song. The service is done in Taizé style and will feature Saints Chorale and talented All Saints musicians and guests. Taizé hymns are chants, repeated again and again, giving them a meditative character.

Taizé is a small village in the eastern part of France. Since 1940 it has been the home of an ecumenical community of brothers where prayer, three times a day, is the center of life. Part of that prayer time is spent singing short repetitive refrains or ostinatos (a repeated pattern).

Perhaps the brothers themselves describe this tradition best:
“We have endeavored to make our prayer meditative, popular, accessible to all generations and as universal as possible... Sung prayer remains one of the strongest expressions in our search for God. Simple words, sung over and over, underscore the meditative quality of prayer; they express a basic truth which the mind quickly grasps and which gradually penetrates the whole person. In this way they lead to that silence which forms the very heart of common prayer.”
