Sounds of Christmas
What are your favorite sounds of Christmas?
Perhaps it is the music? The loud and boisterous celebrations of Joy to the World and Go Tell It on the Mountain. The symbolism in Lo How a Rose or The Holly and the Ivy. The gentle, hushed tones of Away in a Manger or Silent night.
Or maybe it’s the sounds of excitement and joy from your family. Kids tearing open wrapping paper and playing with toys. Adults having meaningful conversation. The gentle clatter of silverware and soft tink of glasses as the whole family gathers around the table for Christmas dinner.
Or maybe it’s the near silence of an evening snowfall. When the flakes drift through the still air, the roar of distant traffic dies off, and you are alone in the beautiful, muffled landscape.
If you are feeling stressed as we enter the last full weekend before Christmas Eve, take a moment today to close your eyes and listen to the sounds around you. Remember that in all of them can be found the voice of God, calling you forward onto Christmas.
